Here in Arizona it takes a special kind of person to grow tomatoes. A true Arizonan, not in the sense of geography but heat tolerance. If you can respect the heat here you can grow tomatoes with these few simple Rules.
Rule #1 Change soil every year - Never use the same soil that you used the year before simply because the soil itself is depleted of the most important nutrients and more than likely the Tomato plants wont even survive the initial stage of growth.
Rule #2 Shield plants from the sun - The sun here in Arizona is simply too intense for Tomato plants to take full on. Find a place that will possibly shade the plant during the hottest part of the day.
Rule #3 Support the plant early - To start using stakes or cages for support is a good idea early on as they tend grow very quickly and become top-heavy.
Rule #4 Water the soil not plant - When watering try not to get water on the leaves since the water is retained by the leaves of a tomato plant. Unfortunately the sun heats the water which in turn burns holes in the leaves.
